Some car owners have a problem – engine detonation, in which gasoline burns too early in the cylinders of the internal combustion engine. But no one has problems with industrial equipment removal, as there are specialized companies. As a result, the pressure on the piston acts before it reaches the top position. The piston, which has not yet reached the dead top position, experiences a force that presses it in the opposite direction. As a consequence, you get increased fuel consumption with reduced engine output.

The process is also accompanied by the release of excess heat, which is transferred to the combustion chamber and the bottom of the piston. As a result, they overheat, and the impact of corrosion of these elements increases.

Uncontrolled detonation leads to sharp changes in temperature and pressure inside the system, which negatively affects the service life of the car engine components. If the problem is not promptly solved, the engine will need diagnosis and repair.

ns for this phenomenon is the use of wrong fuel. Gasoline with a low octane number is produced for engines with a low compression ratio. Such f

uel burns faster and generates more heat. If you put it in the wrong type of engine, it will detonate and cause engine damage in the long run.

Other causes are excessive soot on the cylinders, incorrect operation of the engine cooling system, long work at low revolutions of the crankshaft (it happens with Russian cars), fuel mixture depletion, etc.

If we talk about the human factor, it also leads to detonation of the engine. If you do not regularly downshift when turning or going uphill, such problems occur.

Detonation is easy to identify by ear: the phenomenon is accompanied by a metallic clatter of parts. It is also detected with the help of electronics.

Types of engine detonation

There are two degrees of detonation of the internal combustion engine: unacceptable and allowable. The first leads to wear of the engine units. The second accompanies the work of the ICE at low RPMs for a short time, so it does not cause harm.

If you have identified the causes of detonation of the engine, check whether the fuel is ignited without a spark (we are talking about self-ignition). In this case, the mixture ignites itself due to overheating of the compression power unit, or by contact with fouling or hot electrodes. This is done because some drivers confuse these phenomena with each other. To do this, turn off the ignition and check to see if the internal combustion engine stops momentarily.

If you are using the wrong brand of fuel, detonation is gotten rid of by adjusting the ignition to later. The result is lower gas pressure and cylinder temperatures. Ideally, though, we recommend using the fuel that is recommended by the manufacturer’s manual, as it meets the necessary requirements.
